CAT BREEDS THAT ARE LITERALLY "ONE IN A MILLION"
It seems that the need to posses something truly rare and unique is in human nature. That is why cat breeders are constantly trying to create new unique breeds by crossing domestic and wild cats. And as a result the rarest cat breeds are usually the newest ones, most recent additions to feline family.
But, sadly, there are a lot of cat breeds that are very rare because they are being on a verge of extinction.
Chausie is considered to be the rarest cat breed. It was obtained by crossing Abyssinian cat and a wild jungle cat (Felis chaus). As a result Chausie cats are charming, athletic, smart, active and playful. But there is one big problem that stops breeders from mass breeding those wonderful creatures.
Chausie cats have a very short intestinal tract in comparison to a normal healthy domestic cat. And this becomes a problem when it comes to selection of the diet. You should not feed them with a home made meals. Their intestines are not made to digest vegetarian food. And in addition to all of that - Chausie cats are allergic to a lot of different food groups.
Chausie cats require a special diet consisting of carefully picked meat and bioadditives.
Another breed that is considered to be extremely rare is Toyger. A miniature copies of a formidable tiger, but with a kind heart. Unlike its wild relatives Toyger cats are affectionate, playful, obedient and easily trainable.
Toyger cats are unpretentious and indiscriminate. They easily adapt to new living conditions and, unlike a few other breeds in this list, very healthy. Average life expectancy of a Toyger cat is 12-18 years.
Next up is Munchkin. One of the rarest cat breeds with a very unique appearance. It is basically a miniature dachshunds, but also a cat! The main similarity - short legs with small paws on an elongated body.
Munchkin cats are very sociable, communicative, intelligent and tender.
But because of their body structure Munchkin cats have a lot of health problems. The most common is Lordosis (an excessive spine curving). It causes the spine to push against the heart and lungs, putting a lot of strain on them, which leads to quite a few additional health hazards. Special procedures (for example massage) can alleviate some of the strain, and are usually required to be performed regularly throughout the entire life.
Serengeti is also considered to be one of the rarest cat breeds. The breed was acquired by crossing Oriental and Bengal cats. The breeders aimed to create a cat that would look similar to Serval (wild African cat).
Serengeti are sociable non-aggressive cats that do not require special care and aren't picky when it comes to a diet. And probably their biggest advantage - they are born hunters. If you live in a country - Serengeti should be your cat of choice.
You will never see a rodent on your property ever again. Although your neighbor might lose a few chickens, since Serengeti consider anything that moves and makes noises to be their prey.
And we'll end the list of the rarest cat breeds with Elves. No not the winged magic wielding creatures from the fairy tales. Elf cat breed. Devoted, affectionate, slightly mischievous but friendly and intelligent cats that are extremely attached to their owners. And that is not a complete list of their merits.
But general attitude towards this breed is ambiguous. Some people feel nothing but disgust when they see a "bald" cat, but others find them adorable and completely unforgettable. But either way Elf cats are very rare and will definitely make an impact on your guests, one way or another.
