KHAO MANEE, DIAMOND EYE, WHITE GEM
This is a very old breed of Thai cats, if you literally translate the name of the breed - it means "White Gem". It is also known as the "Diamond Eye".
This breed gained its popularity outside of Thailand quite recently. First it was the US and the UK, then, the breed gradually conquered the rest of the world.
Appearance:
Khao Manee |
A distinctive feature of this breed - bright border around the eyes, resembling faceted diamonds. Eye color: usually blue, but may also be yellow or green, sometimes the eyes have different colors (one eye is green or yellow, and the other - blue).
Wedge-shaped head, nose with a slight curvature. The body is elongated with a long tail. Fur fits tightly to the body, short, with a little undercoat.
Character:
Khao Manee are very friendly, outgoing and curious cats. Moderately playful, but will only play with their owner. They won't chase a ball on their own. They love to be the center of attention and can't stand loneliness. If you spend a lot of time away from home, this cat is not for you.
These cats can not be ignored, first, as already mentioned, they do not tolerate isolation as well as indifference from other inhabitants of the house, but they are also "purr" so wonderfully, that it is physically hard to ignore them and their gentle and melodious voice.
Khao Manee get along very well with other pets. They easily make friends with dogs and parrots (and other small animals). They prefer to avoid conflicts, so if they find something to be not to their liking - won't make a fuss about it.
Easily trained, can perform simple tricks. Very smart. You won't have to repeat twice, these cats understand everything right away.
Khao Manee are very clean and do not require any special care (in terms of grooming).
Health:
In general, Khao Manee are healthy. But there is a small drawback, white cats with blue eyes are very often born deaf, and cats with white ear bowls are prone to ear cancer.
