This breed is barely know in Europe, but it is very popular at home. In the not so distant year 1983, cat breeder Janet Chiefari drew attention to the kitten born from a long-haired cat, but it had a very unusual fur color - rich chocolate tint. A sort of fluffy ball of chocolate.

The breeder called this kitten Brownie. The kitten (male) was growing up, and in the meantime another one, just like him (but a female) was born from a different litter. Later they became the ancestors of the entire breed.

There are no records of the breeds, that were crossed in order to achieve York Chocolate breed, but the rumor has it - they were Persian and Siamese cats.

Appearance:

York Chocolate cats are slender, fit cats, well built and of medium size. Head has a triangular shape and is slightly elongated. Large, widely spaced ears with pointed tips. Almond shaped eyes, of green or bright walnut (sometimes golden brown) color.

Coat color is either chocolate or solid purple, but there are color combinations of these colors with white (usually the legs, abdomen and chest that are white).

Character:

Very outgoing, sociable and friendly cat, but they are also a "natural predators". So sometimes, in-between their feline friendliness, their hunting instincts are triggered. It is better not to tempt the York Chocolate, and avoid having any small animals in the house.

Very active, love engaging everyone around them in a game, especially children. At this point they will manifest themselves in all their glory - restless merry fellows, who are constantly in a search for new adventures.

York Chocolate cats tend to follow their master everywhere, but won't bother them too much, mostly will sit quietly on the sidelines and observe. They don't like being alone, and for the sake of proximity to their master will exchange comfy armchair for a hard floor, just to be in a society of its favorite people.

Tend to be neutrally careful with strangers, won't be hiding or running away, but won't let themselves to be petted.

York Chocolate cats love when you talk to them, or otherwise pay attention to them.

Health:

No serious health problems observed. The only thing that the future owner of the York Chocolate cat should remember - the cats have a very sensitive stomach. And with unbalanced diet they may develop digestive disorders or suffer from food poisoning.

Care:

Since this is a long-haired breed of cats, an appropriate care is required. From time to time you need to comb their long fur. Ensure cleanliness of ears and eyes. Bathe when necessary.
