In a not so distant year of 2010 in Virginia (US) an ordinary shorthair cat gave birth to very unusual kittens. They had completely bald muzzles, and the body was covered with short fur, streaked with gray hair. The owner of the cat understood that the newborns are "one of a kind" and no one have seen anything like it before.

Realizing that mother nature had spewed a very unique creature, the owner sent the photos of newborns to a breeder of Sphynx cats (John Gobble). But the man decided to be cautious and not to come to a hasty conclusions, and decided to look for more information about similar incidents. An he found out, that there were a few more of such weird kittens born in a different state, also from a black shorthair cat.

John realized, that those kittens were nothing more than the result of a natural mutation, and decided that those kittens will be the beginning of a new breed. Once the kittens have grown up and became stronger, scientists decided to examine them for genetic disorders or inheritable diseases. The kittens were absolutely healthy, but with a unique natural gene mutation.

In early 2011, the breeders have gathered all these kittens together, added a few kittens of a black shorthair cat and have begun to work on a new breed. By the end of the year the first kitten of a Lykoi breed was born.

At the moment the ambition of Lykoi breeders is not satisfied. The livestock is too small, and the werewolf cat is still not officially recognized.

Appearance:

Animal lovers have ambivalent feelings towards Lykoi cats. Mostly because when you look at a photo of a werewolf cat, the first thing that pops in your mind is: "Poor kitten, it urgently requires medical attention".

Lykoi cats have slightly greying hair, growing in clumps, as if some of it was pulled out, or the cat has a disease. The coat colour is extraordinary, dirty-gray and black with the clumps of light-gray. Legs and abdomen are completely bald. Muzzle has round bald patches around the eyes. Lykoi cats have big, wide open eyes of very saturated yellow colour. The ears resemble the ones of a bat.

Character:

Not only these cats have a unique appearance, but also an unpredictable character. They are sociable, playful and affectionate with their owners. But if the stranger enters the house, Lykoi cats (who just a minute ago acted like angels) will turn into a wild animal, and most likely will attack the unwanted (in cat's opinion) guest.

Lykoi cats are courageous and strong, they can win a battle against much bigger rivals. They have a very developed hunters instincts. If you decide to buy Lykoi cat, don't even think about getting any other pets, werewolf cats will not tolerate any birds, fish or rodents. Even a large dog is merely a prey for the Lykoi cat.

At the moment, it is very hard to buy Lykoi cat. The cats of this breed are very rare, and mainly contained in nurseries.
