When it comes to cats, some people prefer cute little balls of fur that they can play or cuddle with, while others are looking for a graceful individuals with luxurious fur and excellent manners. Either way, one thing they have in common - they see cats as an amiable companions, a small amusing creatures that bring peace and tranquility to their homes.

But there are people who see cats as hunters, an agile and remarkably strong predators. Of course the only "true" cats in their opinion are the "big" cats - wild tigers, panthers, etc. And they would gladly tame one of these big cats and have it as a pet, but it is a tough endeavor in the realitiy of the modern life (not to mention being extremely dangerous).

It seems that the need to posses something truly rare and unique is in human nature. That is why cat breeders are constantly trying to create new unique breeds by crossing domestic and wild cats. And as a result the rarest cat breeds are usually the newest ones, most recent additions to feline family. 

But, sadly, there are a lot of cat breeds that are very rare because they are being on a verge of extinction.

Chausie is considered to be the rarest cat breed. It was obtained by crossing Abyssinian cat and a wild jungle cat (Felis chaus). As a result Chausie cats are charming, athletic, smart, active and playful. But there is one big problem that stops breeders from mass breeding those wonderful creatures.

Persian Chinchilla is one of the most beautiful cat breeds. It has an unusual coat color, bright green (or blue) eyes, outlined by a dark rim, with a charming red nose and lips outlined by a black edging. The looks that will make any fashionista overflow with envy.

Thanks to its outstanding appearance Persian Chinchillas are magnets for feline exhibition awards.

Persian Chinchilla are affectionate, intelligent and calm little cats. They love playing games (chasing a bow on a string seems to be their favorite), and enjoy spending time with their owners as well as anyone who is willing to give it undivided attention.

The very word Sphynx sounds magical. Makes one imagine infinite sand planes of a desert, with pyramids scattered across. Sphynx cat is just as magical. A statuette with soft body lines of flesh and blood, with eyes that seem to glance right into your soul. Frankly speaking, Sphynx cats can hardly be called cats, they look and act like they have came from another planet or dimension.

Sphynx cats are very human-like: they articulate with their paws as if those were hands, they like to sleep under the blanket, and they never take their eyes off of you, a trait that a very few animals have.

Those who dare to pick a Sphynx cat up and hold it in their arms will never want to put it back down.

Dealing with cat allergies

 

In an earlier article I wrote about hypoallergenic cat breeds. And if you read that article you'll know that I'm allergic to cats fur, but this doesn't affect my attitude towards cats, as I've learned many ways of dealing with cat allergies.

If you are allergic to cats from the day you were born, then you most likely learned how to cope with it. But what if you just learned that you are allergic to cats?

Or maybe you never showed any symptoms of cat allergies, and suddenly, after purchasing a new pet to brighten your life, something changed. Obviously nothing happens "suddenly", and there are many factors that might have contributed to the development of an allergy.
