How To Befriend A Cat

How To Befriend A Cat

Cats are like children, they can "feel" and understand people very well, if those people have good intentions, but prefer to avoid those, who are unkindly disposed towards them. So, how do you befriend a cat?

If you are trying to improve your relations with a cat, start with a simple step - sit quietly and pay no attention to him.

Speak in a low, calm voice, avoiding high notes. If you decided to take a look at a cat, look at his tail, and not in his eyes. The cat, seeing such "disrespect" to his own person, will be interested in "investigating" you, and will make his approach. And that is just what we need. =)

Do not make any sudden movements.
Give the cat an opportunity to examine you visually and sniff you.

If after such "inspection" the cat decided to sit nearby - rejoice, you have earned his trust. The cat might sit with his back to you, which would be a sign of "dislike" in a human world, but in cat language it is a token of respect, as if saying "I feel completely safe exposing my back to you". If the cat considers you threatening, he will not come near you, and will "sniff out" the situation from a distance.

If the cat climbed on your lap, purrs and rubs against your legs - he really likes you! (Or, alternatively, is trying to "sweet talk" you into giving him a treat.)

If you won't pay attention to a cat for a long time, allowing him to slowly get used to your presence, even the cats which, at first glance, seem to be unfriendly, can change their attitude and become your friends.
